Jamie and Josh Timmons special day decor

A Black and Silver Glitz inspired wedding decor

Hello April! Hello Sunshine!! Hello Readers!!!

As always, we cherish the time you spend on our blog and aim to make it worth your while.

As a rental outfit and an event decor designer, I’m not surprised a large number of our clients dream that their special day will be as beautiful as the ones they see in Knot Magazine weddings or on Pinterest Boards. We also believe in aiming for the sky. Unfortunately sometimes there are situations that prevent us from being able to set up their picture perfect wedding day décor. These situations include the distance of the venue from Halifax, budgetary constraints or previously being booked for another wedding on that date.

Having been in those shoes before, and as a Professional in this field, I make it a point to share my honest opinion. Couples, along with their friends and family can achieve these looks (including those featured in our gallery) with some ingenuity and real quality items. I eagerly offer my expert opinion in helping them pull it all together.

Let me introduce you to Jamie. Jamie contacted us a few weeks to her wedding day regarding her special day decor. Jamie’s situation was more unique than most of our other brides because she couldn’t visit us at our Halifax showroom. She lived outside of the province and was coming home to Nova Scotia to be married.
I vividly remember Jamie’s first email included the question: “What would it take to make my reception space look beautiful?”

Despite the distance, we were able to make it all come together beautifully with a lot of email exchanges, phone calls and shared photos.
With a phone consultation and good note taking, we came up with a perfect design concept. I love to draw and color out my design concepts to make it easier for me, and the client, to visualize their picture perfect day. Now thanks to Pinterest that’s easier to achieve!

Jamie wanted a classy uncluttered look. She is a very simple girl with great taste. As such she wanted to incorporate her colors of black and white with a few silver glitz.

We achieved this look by using black floor length tablecloths on the venue’s rectangular tables (I love floor length linens as they speak “elegance”). We used white spandex banquet chair covers for a very sleek vibe. The spandex provides a no wrinkle or sag look and feel. We decided to go without sashes as Jamie wanted a very simple and clean look.
For a ‘pop” of color, we brought in silver sequin runners for some added glitz on the guest tables. These make a stunning statement against the black tablecloths. We tied this in with the same floor length sequin linens on the head table. And for the cake table we went with a silver sequin overlay atop a black floor length round tablecloth. All of our napkins were a muted silver generous sized banquet linen. And as the crown jewel at the center of each guest table, a silver Manzanita tree with hanging crystals and spiral string lights.

At one point Jamie called me to discuss whether or not the black tablecloths would look a little too “gothic” for a wedding scene, but I quickly and candidly re-assured her that the design we’d developed was nothing short of classy. I had executed a number of wedding designs using black linens and accents, and they all looked beautiful without losing that soft bridal feel.

Communicating the vision clearly is key to ensuring its execution. Jamie made it easy in that she trusted our opinion, and was such a pleasure to work with! I know that the results speak for themselves. I can say that I truly enjoyed designing Jamie’s special day.

In the exact words of the brideWe planned an extremely last minute wedding with only 6 weeks of planning in December. I was worried that my vision for the reception would be out of our budget and impossible given our time frame. Beautiful linen rentals supplied everything and it was stunning, we are still getting compliments. Cathy was fantastic, she supplied everything and it was everything and more than I expected. Her service is top notch and the decor is beautiful. I hope I get the chance to work with her again in the future.
